Do You Share Your Organization's Values?
Part of becoming more self-aware in your professional life involves comparing your values with those of your organization, and then categorizing the values in one of four ways:
Professionals in non-managerial roles who wish to improve their ability to act according to their personal and organizational values.
- Is your value in alignment with one of the organization's values?
- Does it directly conflict?
- Does the organization value something that you feel an obligation to value as well?
- Or, might one of the organization's values present an opportunity for you to develop your own behavior and values?
- What are all the possible outcomes to this conflict? Are any of these outcomes unethical?
- Which outcome best aligns with my values? Which outcome seems to best align with the values of my counterpart?
- Which outcome keeps the most relationships intact? Which outcome builds relationships?
When your values and beliefs align with the values of your organization, going to work each day can feel like a rewarding, enriching experience. But what if they don't? How do you overcome feelings of value misalignment or conflict, and do so without affecting your work or your professional relationships? This Impact Series product explores ways of identifying and addressing areas of personal and organizational value conflict.
